Tennis, Padel & Pickleball

Tennis, padel and pickleball are exciting and dynamic sports all requiring similar but also specific physical and technical demands. As predominately striking sports, these sports all demand the ability elite lateral movement and to develop power through weight transfer and coordinating full body movements from a combination of rotational, lateral, horizontal and vertical momentum. However, there are many other aspects of these games that mean other physical qualities are also highly important.

In no particular order the following physical qualities are all key physical demands of the racket sports:

  • Mobility (Ankle, Hip, Thoracic Rotation)

  • Lateral Movement & Agility

  • Full Body Stability & Power

  • Acceleration and Deceleration

  • Anaerobic and Aerobic Endurance

Physical Performance Training for Racket Sport Athlete

Like all sports, strong foundation of athletic skills are important in the sports of tennis, padel and pickleball. Following this, development of power, agility, speed and endurance are all central to performance in these racket sports but as with high technical and psychological demands, physical performance training for these sports must be prescribed carefully and should be integrated into your technical and overall training plan.
