Golf

Whilst golf is widely misunderstood by many, the sports rapidly changing landscape is starting to highlight the truly elite athleticism that is demanded to perform at the elite level. Golf required a range of physical qualities from mobility to full body power and the ability to exert huge amount of force rapidly. Gold demands elite lateral and rotational movement ability to develop power through weight transfer and coordinating full body movements from a combination of rotational, lateral, horizontal and vertical momentum. However, there are many other aspects of this game that mean other physical qualities are also highly important.

In no particular order the following physical qualities are all key physical demands of the sport of Golf:

  • Mobility (Ankle, Hip, Thoracic Rotation, Shoulder, Neck)

  • Full Body Stability, Strength & Power

  • Muscular Coordination and Motor Control

  • Anaerobic and Aerobic Endurance

Physical Performance Training for Golf Athletes

Like all sports, strong foundation of athletic skills are important in the development stages for golf athletes. Following this, development of specific mobility, stability, strength and power are all central to performance. However, with supreme technical and psychological demands, physical performance training for golf must be prescribed carefully and should be integrated into your technical and overall training plan.
